What is my online presence these days?

 

 Hello, my name is Adel Karabegovic, Environmental Science Major at ASU.

Generally, I have not had presence in online media in my life. This is due to a number of factors. While I was a Computer Science major for a couple years, I was not a social person. A lack of communication on my part from both mental health issues and other medical issues kept me locked out of any healthy level of social participation. Eventually I sought professional help and now that I am better I have sought to be an Environmental Science major and try to get my foot into the door, late into the game. In conclusion, I am almost out of undergrad but my social media presence lacks quite a bit.

Otherwise, I do have a few social outlets. I mainly use Discord and I do at least browse some forms of media such as Reddit, Youtube, and the occasional Twitter posts. However, I never really post myself or let myself be known on platforms. I used to have a Facebook but I have long since lost the account and left it in the past a bit. From the Summer-NIH program I did make a LinkedIn account and have a few connections now, that's a good start! I think this is a good time to start as any to build an online presence.

I do find my experience in building an online presence and using media to be pretty bad. I think this blog isn't even linked to the invitation I was given by email, probably because I got lost on how to use it. I will find making a personal website challenging due to the fact that my eye for design and visual appeal is terrible, and that I have not had much HTML experience outside of a single high-school course a decade ago. I will likely end up using Wix just so I can spend more time actually designing a website rather than being bogged down in tutorials.

 Honestly, Environmental Science feels a bit difficult not because it isn't useful but because it is such a broad scope. I think this actually is more evident when I talk to my peers, where some are heavily invested into hydroponic research, soil, agriculture, entomology, and such. My own experience is showing that I am more geared towards microbiology research, specifically yeast and genetics. I am not only going after a degree in Environmental Science but also a certificate in Biomedical Research offered by New College. How my college experiences have given me experiences employers want to see

      Thus far I have worked two jobs in my life, one was rather trivial at a movie theater and another at a hospital so at least for entry-level, no education required(which is a lie, a patient access representative needs three months education paid by the employer and then about a year of training to become relatively valuable to the company) type of job, I have some knowledge of what employers may be looking for.       My first and greatest experience that has given me teamwork, critical thinking, and communication skills was my internship with the NCEHSS program in the summer that was all about doing research. Being able to work with your peers on projects that are not gated by grades or strict piece-by-piece deadlines is a good way to build teamwork.
