Reflecting on my current and desired online presence

Hello, it is Adel once again, an Environmental Science Major at ASU.

In my previous blog post, I mentioned that my online presence was limited to certain platforms like Discord, Twitter, Youtube, and Reddit. Mostly, these were for entertainment reasons and  I did not see myself as someone who would need a professional need for social media. As this semester progressed and I listened to the advice and did the assignments for my STEM Success course, I see how much more important it can be to have a professional foot in the door in the web space.

To a certain degree, I used to be kind of embarrassed to reveal anything social media wise with anyone because I saw it as something simply personal and not to be shared. Of course, during elementary school and high school we were always taught to be wary of an online presence. Today however, I have seen how powerful a tool it is to be able to provide information about what value you have and what you can provide in a professional sense. During the summer I made a LinkedIn and a website during this fall semester. I feel far more comfortable showing someone my name and saying, "yes here is my website and what you can see about my career goals, skills, and experiences". It is not an exaggeration to say that it has made me more confident to keep providing an online presence to have and share to show people my potential.

In the future, I would much like to continue growing my presence with new sites and such to reach a larger audience so that when a company or person googles me, they are able to see what I have done professionally and can say "wow this person works really hard". On a shorter timescale, I am looking forward to further updating and raising the quality of the existing website I have and improving my professional media presence. It is incredibly exciting to do so and I felt like I used to never be able to do something like this in the past. One thing I want to work on in the current semester is my LinkedIn and network more to have better connections so that people can see the work I will be doing in the coming years.

 Honestly, Environmental Science feels a bit difficult not because it isn't useful but because it is such a broad scope. I think this actually is more evident when I talk to my peers, where some are heavily invested into hydroponic research, soil, agriculture, entomology, and such. I am not only going after a degree in Environmental Science but also a certificate in Biomedical Research offered by New College. How my college experiences have given me experiences employers want to see

      Thus far I have worked two jobs in my life, one was rather trivial at a movie theater and another at a hospital so at least for entry-level, no education required(which is a lie, a patient access representative needs three months education paid by the employer and then about a year of training to become relatively valuable to the company) type of job, I have some knowledge of what employers may be looking for.       My first and greatest experience that has given me teamwork, critical thinking, and communication skills was my internship with the NCEHSS program in the summer that was all about doing research. Being able to work with your peers on projects that are not gated by grades or strict piece-by-piece deadlines is a good way to build teamwork. What is my online presence these days?

   Hello, my name is Adel Karabegovic, Environmental Science Major at ASU. Generally, I have not had presence in online media in my life. This is due to a number of factors. While I was a Computer Science major for a couple years, I was not a social person. A lack of communication on my part from both mental health issues and other medical issues kept me locked out of any healthy level of social participation. Eventually I sought professional help and now that I am better I have sought to be an Environmental Science major and try to get my foot into the door, late into the game. In conclusion, I am almost out of undergrad but my social media presence lacks quite a bit. Otherwise, I do have a few social outlets.
